The first lady Mrs.Sia Koroma on Friday Commissions five water pumps donated by a philanthropist Madam Sia Manal Basma on behalf of her late father to the people of Fisher Street and the Brook Street Communities.
Addressing a large crowd of people at the Basharia Mosque the first lady Mrs. Sia Koroma lauded the effort of Mrs. Sia Manal Basma and urges others to emulate her good example; she assures the community that government will never sideline them as they owe a lot to them. Mrs. Sia Koroma called on them to take care of the pipes as the cutting of pipes is very bad and will lead to the death of others as water is very important in the human lives.
Mrs. Sia Koroma reminds the audience of the work of her office especially on maternal mortality she appeal to the Imams to lecture the people not to misuse the medicines in the hospital as some people go there even though they are not sick, she call on parents to support the World breast feeding week as the trend has reverse all over the world that the best thing to give to a child is breast feeding exclusively for six months.
The Second Lady Mrs. Kadija Sam-Sumana stresses the importance of taking care of the pumps as the issue of maintenance is very vital to help the community more. She urge them to take the girl child education very seriously as government has put it high on their agenda.
Mrs. Kadija Sam-Sumana thanked the Mrs. Sia Basma for the bold step she took more especially the Armed Forces for their marvelous work in putting the dream of Sia Basma to reality as without their help to erect the pipes it would have been difficult. She also thank the Councilor and all community people especially traders of Sani Abacha Street.
In his contribution the public relation officer of the Guma Valley Water Company assures the community of their support to supply them water and reiterates that they are doing their level best to supply the nation with water. He reveals plans for construction of another water dam which will enable them to supply more water to the nation. He further went on that they are now eight million gallons of water every day, but hope with the sixteen gallons to be supply from orogu the supply will now be twenty four million gallons a day and this will help immensely in solving the issue of water shortage in the city.
Councillor Madinatu Kamara welcome entourage of the first lady and commended for her initiation in bringing free health care, she thanked the Sani Abacha Street market women for their cooperation in helping to bring such a development to his ward and hoped that they will safe guard the pumps. The Sani Abacha Street market women appeal for the provision of a market and a warehouse where they can keep their wares.
Similar sentiments were express by Mrs. Isatu Sesay Vice president for the APC Women’s wing, the youths and Imams of the community who thanked Madam Sia Manal Basma and hope for more developmental programs.
